Founder's Story
As a little girl in elementary school, the most exciting moment of my week was Sunday night—when I got to pick out and lay out my outfits for the entire school week. Fashion became my form of self-expression early on, even before I fully understood it.

By middle school, I began questioning what I wanted to pursue as a future career, and by high school, that question became unavoidable. Fashion was something I always held close to my heart, but I wasn’t sure if it was a realistic path. Still, I decided to take a leap of faith, follow my passion, and research colleges with fashion programs.

I went on to attend California State University, Long Beach, where I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Merchandising & Design. Since then, I have spent over six years as a working professional in the retail industry. I began my career in stores, managing teams, customers, and product, with a strong focus on driving profitability.
Shortly after graduating, I transitioned into corporate retail, where merchandising became the core of my experience. Through this role, I gained extensive knowledge in product buying, sales performance, and inventory management.

Despite all I had learned and accomplished, I realized I wanted more—something I could truly call my own. One day, while on vacation in Mexico, I came across a small Tejana (western hat) store. The moment I walked in, I felt an instant pull. I knew, without hesitation, that this was it.

Today, that vision has become a reality. This brand represents a leap of faith, a lifelong love for fashion, and a commitment to creating pieces that tell a story.
Hat History

The cowboy hat—known throughout Mexico as the tejana—has roots that stretch back centuries to the Spanish and Mexican vaqueros who worked cattle across Mexico, Texas, and the American Southwest. These horsemen wore wide-brimmed hats for protection from the harsh sun while spending long days on horseback. Over time, those practical hats evolved into what the world now recognizes as the modern cowboy hat.
History
Hat Production
Production
Every ROOTSHATS hat is artisanally crafted in Guanajuato, Mexico, a region renowned for its deep tradition of leatherwork and cowboy culture. For generations, Guanajuato has been one of Mexico's most important cattle-raising regions. The abundance of livestock created a thriving leather industry, leading to world-class craftsmanship in boots, belts, saddles, and tejanas. While the tejana emerged from the shared ranching culture of northern Mexico and Texas, Guanajuato became one of the most respected centers for producing cowboy apparel and accessories.
Our Roots
Our story is also personal. My parents are from Tamazula, Jalisco, a community shaped by ranching, agriculture, and horsemanship. For generations, ranch owners, farm workers, and horsemen relied on wide-brimmed hats for their laborious work. Long before it became a symbol of style, the hat was an essential part of everyday life.
Tamazula is also a place where mariachi, banda, norteño, and ranchera music are woven into everyday life. Musicians, ranchers, and fans alike embraced the ranchero look: boots, belt buckles, pressed denim, and the tejana. The hat became more than protection from the elements—it became a symbol of identity, pride, and heritage.
That is why a tejana feels just as at home in Tamazula as it does in Texas.
